How to get referred
If you have a diagnosed neuromuscular condition and would like to access our services, you’ll need a referral from a healthcare professional.
We accept referrals from:
- Your GP
- Your hospital Consultant
- A Specialist Neuromuscular Physiotherapist
- A Neuromuscular Care Advisor
Your referrer will need to confirm your diagnosis and recommend treatment at the Muscular Dystrophy Support Centre.
If you’re unsure who to ask or have any questions about the referral process, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
Healthcare professionals can find can find out how to make a referral on our referrals page.
Your journey with us
Initial assessment
Once we receive your referral, we’ll invite you for an assessment with one of our therapists. This usually takes place in Coventry or Birmingham.
This appointment gives us the opportunity to learn more about you, understand your individual needs and discuss how we can best support you. We’ll work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan and recommend the services that are most appropriate for you.
Treatment planning
Following your assessment, we’ll work with you to develop a personalised therapy plan based on your needs and goals.
Depending on what’s right for you, this may include ongoing physiotherapy, osteopathy and complementary therapy. We’ll regularly review your progress and adapt your treatment as your needs change, ensuring you continue to receive the right support.
Annual review
As part of our ongoing support, you’ll be invited to an annual review with a member of our clinical team. We’ll discuss your progress, review your treatment plan and make any adjustments needed to ensure your care continues to meet your changing needs.
More ways to stay connected
Alongside your treatment, there are lots of opportunities to connect with others and support your wellbeing.
You can join our exercise classes, access hand therapy, and explore supported exercise with our Therapy Assistant. You can also join our wellbeing hubs and peer support groups, as well as attend social events throughout the year. They’re a great way to stay active, make new connections and become part of our supportive community.
